Gilas Pilipinas had a rough start, but they picked it up in the middle quarters and kept it together for the rest of the game. They beat Saudi Arabia 76-63 in Jeddah in the Fiba World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Roger Pogoy, a veteran shooter, and Dwight Ramos, a key player, each scored 13 points to lead the way at King Abdullah Sports City. This helped the Philippines finish with a 5-3 record and win its first window in the showcase being used to prepare for the global meet that will be held here in August of next year.

“I thought they came hard and had a good game plan, and we were ready for that,” national coach Chot Reyes said in a press conference after the game.

“We knew this team was good, so we were mentally ready to have a hard time, especially since we had just played a tough game in Jordan. “Luckily, we didn’t give up when things got hard at first,” he said.

Kai Sotto and CJ Perez again won a lot of money. Sotto scored 11 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, and blocked 5 shots, while Perez scored 10 points and blocked 4 shots.

Gilas took control of the game during the middle quarters when they went on a 12-0 run to make their lead as big as 16 points

Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, turned out to be a pain at home. With 2:08 left, the home team got as close as 61–69 thanks to Mathna Almarwani and Khalid Abdel Gabar.

The Nationals, on the other hand, kept their cool as the game came to a close, sending the Saudis to a 2-6 record and giving themselves another win. This was done without the help of Filipino-American star Jordan Clarkson, who is in the middle of a busy NBA season with the Utah Jazz.

“We were too excited in the first half. We had a lot of people come and go. Good thing, we had to get back on track in the second half and win,” said Thompson, who finished with nine points and nine rebounds.

“I think the crowd gave us a lot of power. They really gave us a big boost and didn’t let us lose until the third quarter, when we found our rhythm and started making our shots. We basically won because of how well we played defense,” Reyes said.
