After being selected for the Major League Soccer Best XI and then securing a loan to play for Swansea City in the English Second Division, Jordan Morris was one of the few players in 2021 who had a legitimate shot at making the United States men’s national team’s World Cup roster. However, Morris suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during his fifth outing for the Swans, which resulted in him being unable to play for the balance of the season.
Morris’ comeback season with the Sounders in 2022 wasn’t particularly impressive for either him or the team, but his experienced presence and the fact that he can play both on the wing and in the midfield helped him secure a spot on head coach Gregg Berhalter’s 26-man squad. If he is given the chance to participate in the tournament and takes full advantage of it, it will be one of the most motivational stories of the competition.
